My friend and teacher Ike is gone, he will be
missed.
Ernest “Ike” Eisenhour
A loving and compassionate man, Ernest Elmer
Eisenhour, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007 surrounded by family.
He was born on February 23, 1955 and died at the age of 52 with cancer.
He was known to those nearest and dearest to him as ‘Ike.’
Ike was born on Barksdale Air Force Base in
Bossier, Louisiana and is the oldest of seven children. He grew up in a
military family and lived many places but resided in Vancouver,
Washington for the past 17 years. Ike was a patriotic man who loved his
country and had tremendous respect and gratitude for all the U.S.
service men and women who served.
Ike
was full of life and love and was always surrounded by family and
friends. He was a paper maker for 35 years and took great pride in his
work. He established life-long friendships with his co-workers and
fellow paper makers all over the United States. Ike’s passions included
NASCAR, riding his Harley, entertaining, cooking, yard work, home
repair, fishing and golfing. One of Ike’s strongest attributes was his
ability to listen and make time for all who knew him. Those who knew
him best have said Ike missed his calling to be pastor or counselor
because he was always kind, patient and understanding. (The book,
“Tuesdays with Morrie” was read to Ike shortly before he died. He would
listen and smile, knowing that his own life was lead as Morrie attempted
to teach others to do. It would honor Ike if we all would take the time
to read and consider this “life lesson” book).
Ike is survived by his wife Kacy and four daughters
- Cari, Jennifer, Erica, and Maxie. Three
siblings - Thelma, Ed and Steve along with his father Ernest O.
Eisenhour live in Arizona. He also has 2 siblings - Donna and Tammy
along with his mother Wilma Snead in Arkansas. “Papa Ike” was blessed to
have six beloved granddaughters - Kalyn (11), Clarissa (9), Nataly (4),
Hayly (3), Emma (10 months), and Karly (2 days). Ike was very proud of
his three son in-laws Richard, Joel and Bruce and he has many nieces and
nephews that held a special place his heart. (He is predeceased by his
younger sister, Tina).
In lieu of flowers and gifts, Ike’s expressed his
wish that donations in the form of volunteer work, blood donations, or
financial contributions be made to the American
Red Cross, The American
Cancer Society, or The Victory Junction Gang Camp. Ike was aware
that he would soon be in a more peaceful place and put a lot of effort
into planning his own “Celebration of Life Memorial”. Services will be
held on Saturday December
15, 2007 -11:00 a.m. at The
First Church of God in Hazel Dell, Washington – officiated by our family
friend and pastor, Jim Hunt. A reception will follow services at the
church.
